- The prompt is based on the sources found here at this site (http://park51sources.blogspot.com/).
- The prompt requires you to integrate a variety of sources into a coherent, well-written essay. Refer to the sources to support your position; avoid paraphrase or summary. Your argument should be central; the sources should support this argument.
- Remember to attribute/cite both direct and indirect citations.
- The Park51 building sits two to three blocks from “Ground Zero,” a term often used to refer to the site of the World Trade Center site after it was destroyed on September 11, 2001. In the fall of 2010, the plan to convert the Park51 building into a Muslim community center with a mosque inside ignited passions and sparked debate across America (and really, in our globalized society, across the world).
- Read the sources on this site carefully. Then, in an essay that uses at least five of the sources for support, take a position on the Park51 controversy. You should assert a claim concerning the legitimacy/right/morality behind building a Muslim community center at the Park51 site.
- Your response should be 4-5 pages long.
